The Food and Drug Administration estimates that 4 million to 5 million American men may suffer from low testosterone levels, but only 5 percent currently are being treated.
That’s unfortunate, as many studies have found that low testosterone levels contribute to a variety of men’s health problems, while higher levels can have significant positive effects on their health. Consider the following findings:

  • Researchers from the University of Washington have shown that men with low testosterone levels appear to be at greater risk of developing “pot bellies,” according to a study published in the International Journal of Obesity and Related Metabolic Disorders in April 2000.
  • A decline in testosterone at any age increases a man’s risk for osteoporosis. Older men with low testosterone levels are twice as likely to fracture their hips as men of the same age with normal testosterone levels, according to WebMDHealth.
  • Older men with lower levels of testosterone could have a higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, according to a preliminary data reported in the January 2004 issue of Neurology.
  • Additionally, loss of testosterone seems to be at the root of some memory loss in men, according to research presented at the Society for Neuroscience annual meeting in October 2004.
  • Testosterone may help men recover from strokes, according to preliminary animal research that was conducted at St. Louis University and presented at the annual meeting of the American Neurological Association in October 2004.
  • Men with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease may benefit from an extra dose of testosterone, according to a study published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine in October 2004.

The good news is that there are natural supplements that increase men's testosterone levels. For instance, Red Stag, manufactured by Nature's Youth, is formulated with some of the most frequently studied natural ingredients that are shown to increase testosterone levels, including deer antler, Korean ginseng and L-arginine.
