Kick It Up A Notch PDF Print E-mail

Well, I am one of those that loves his technology. I am also an Apple guy. I own an iMac,  iPod Touch, and an iPad. Recently I boughtFitness HD for my iPad ($3.99).

This app is truely amazing. First off it looks great. Second it has a depth of content that I don’t think I will ever get to the end of. It has a library of more than 700 exercises, including videos demonstrating how they are performed and calories burned. Then there is the database of more than 300,000 foods, so you never have to wonder how many calories or fat grams that bean burrito had. There is a place to input and track your measurements and a calendar to keep a diary of your training.

All in all Fitness HD is a tremendous companion and ally in your quest for that elusive body….um, you know what I mean.

My New Favorite Snack PDF Print E-mail

I commute and spend alot of time in my car. I have developed the habit of snaking on something while driving. I know not the best of habits. Anyway Popchips are really a great low fat alternative to the rest of the ga ga out there.  120 calories and 4g fat. When I need that something crunchy, these fit the bill.

Still Waiting For Spring PDF Print E-mail

It seems that spring will not get here in Vermont. I  made it all the way through the winter without getting more than a  few sniffles. But now that I can smell spring in the air, I have had the worst cold I can remember….ever. It has put a real damper on my energy and I have had trouble sleeping due to a constant cough. Every day it feels like it might be getting better, but then by night, it doubles down on me again…..anyway I have still been keeping up with my biking and exercising and am down a total of 10 pounds from where I started. It hardly seems like anything for all this time but I keep going in the right direction……that’s a good thing

I'm Back PDF Print E-mail

Sorry for the delay in posting, life has a way of getting my attention. From having an accident with my car in the snow to changing to a new real estate firm and managing an apartment building, I have been busy. All is well though. I got my car back from the shop, work is going well and I have lost another 5 pounds. Winter is the toughest time to get my exercise in. I do have an exercise bike, but I admit it does get boring. I live at the end of a 1/4 mile driveway that has a killer hill in it. I like to walk down and up a couple of times, but it has been as cold as 20 below recently. So, yesterday I took my pedometer and went to the University Mall and walked inside to get my exercise in for the day. I just have to keep mixing it up and getting creative. I don’t belong to a gym because I never seem to be near the same one more than once a week, so have never had much luck with regular attendance. Of course I recognize my resistance to simply scheduling the gym into my life……. but maybe that will be next.

Having just gotten over the worst flu I can remember of my adult life, I am grateful that the weather is warming up some here in Vermont. I am now taking my walking back outside. I can’t believe that I have been walking in an indoor mall with all the “old” people. Problem is, if I tell the truth,  I am one of those old people I had opinions about. Now that I am closing in on 60, and have been out of shape for close to 20 of those years, I realize what I thought would never happen, is a reality.

I used to think that if I ever got out of shape, it would be so easy to just suck it up and do what I needed to get it back. Well, not so much. I am here to report that I had no idea what it really is like to have a full schedule and a slower metabolism, not to mention joints that complain on a regular basis. I know that by getting back in shape, much of the bodily complaints will go away, but it is a much harder process than I expected…..and my ego doesn’t like it.
